In just three short weeks President Trump’s Executive Orders has achieved what most Christian organisations have been lobbying for years. In no order of importance, Trump has issued the following orders:
• The war on women’s sports is over’ as Trump bans men from women’s sports
• Trump has placed the role of religion in American governance with the creation of the first-ever White House Faith Office. Rev. Paula White, a longtime spiritual adviser to Trump and one of the most influential religious figures in his previous administration, is leading the initiative
• United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has gone – which was funding LGBTIQA+ propaganda in traditionally Christian societies by using taxpayer money “to promote pet projects of the left” including, but not limited to, DEI in Serbia, green energy in Lebanon, and transgender comic books in Peru
• End of in federal DEI programs especially in leftist colleges and universities
• Trump granted pardons to 10 pro-life activists convicted for their involvement in a 2020 clinic blockade in Washington, DC. The activists were charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, a 1994 law designed to prevent obstruction of and threats against abortion clinics
• A Gender Ideology Extremism order directs federal agencies to adopt policies that recognize biological sex as immutable and determined at birth
• A directive for protecting children from chemical and surgical mutilation is an executive order that prohibits the use of federal funds for any medical interventions that seek to alter the sex of minors, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures, and
• An executive order was issued to reinforce the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding for abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life.
So, what should be our biblical response to these directives? Mixed with these positive developments were some actions that could be an issue for many evangelicals. Most evangelical Christians believe there is a moral responsibility to receive refugees from the 50 countries where religious persecution is rife and as followers of Jesus, we should evaluate policies through the lenses of both our theological convictions and their practical effects, rather than just mere partisan principles.
That said, there are likely impacts for Australia as we move to rebalancing the ‘Social Agenda’ that has for far too long been dominated by the left-wing woke brigade. First, the Trump directives will no-doubt filter into Australian social fabric and rightly so if we are a bible-believing Christians. Most of Trump’s directives have been on the Christian lobbying radar for years so in three weeks Trump has achieved what many Christian lobby groups have been arguing for years.
The question now is will the churches ‘trumpet’ the Trump initiatives the majority of which have Christian foundations and will the Australian politician’s piggy-back onto the Trump directives in the lead up to the federal election?
